CRAFTING A LEGACY since 1926
Ying Tai Tailor, Ltd. was established by Mr. Hanson Luh in 1926. He received his training from expert European tailors who migrated to China in the late 1800s. Mr. Luh was one of a handful of first generation Chinese young apprentices known for his mastery of fine tailoring in Shanghai. During World War II, Ying Tai along with many other Shanghainese bespoke tailors relocated to Hong Kong. Ying Tai Ltd. was registered and opened its flagship store in the Hong Kong Peninsula Hotel in 1958. |
In 1964, Mr. Conrad Hilton was highly impressed by the traditional Shanghainese craftsmanship and the perfect cut to the garment of Ying Tai that, with a warm invitation from Mr. Hilton, Ying Tai opened a 2nd store in his 5-star Hong Kong Hilton Hotel.
The art of Shanghainese Style Bespoke Tailoring is well-known among foreign dignitaries and those of refined taste. Ying Tai’s current master tailors are of the third generation, and the last remaining few, who practice and truly master the fine art of Shanghainese Bespoke Tailoring. After being at the Peninsula Hotel for close to half a century, Ying Tai is now open at "The Galleria" in Central to be of closer proximity to its local clientele. |
PRACTICING THE HERITAGE
Our rich heritage in Shanghainese Tailoring provides the solid foundation on which we build upon our legacy. Today, the Tailors of Ying Tai are some of the few remaining fine Shanghainese Bespoke Tailors in Hong Kong, they continue to provide genuinely high quality hand-sewn shirts and suits to our esteemed clients as we did more than 85 years ago. |
