Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Ying Tai’s bespoke tailor outstanding?
The choice of the inter-layer material is especially important as it is the core foundation of the suit and jacket. Ying Tai’s practice adopts the Italian horse hair canvas as the inter-layer not only to inherit the tradition of Shanghainese tailors but also continues to embrace numerous benefits of applying it. The horse hair canvas better combines with your chosen outer layer fabric by hand sewing the layers together and shape the garment perfectly on your body as if it were your second skin. Ying Tai is never tempted to compromise its quality by less hand sewing or saving working hours. Unlike many other tailor-shops, Ying Tai Tailors do not use the glue-on inter-layer which easily results in stiffness of the garment and seriously damaging the core structure of the suit and jacket.

Garment Care - Suit
Machine cleaning will damage the structural framing of a suit and shorten its life. In a situation where a suit must be cleaned, it should be done with proper care.
Dry Cleaning - Machine dry cleaning can seriously affect the life of a suit, most noticeable damage will be its texture and color. We recommend going to a specialty dry cleaner who would use sponge and spot clean individually rather than machine tumble your bespoke suit with other garments.
Pressing - High temperature pressing is not recommended. Different fabrics react differently in high temperature, some will shrink faster than others. Since your suit consists of a couple of different layers of fabrics, this difference in fabric reaction time will damage the structure of the suit. To remove wrinkles on your suit, it is best to properly hang your suit to get rid of the wrinkles naturally.
Garment Care - Shirt
Prior to washing the shirts, treat all stained area with stain removal detergent. Moisten the affected area or soak in warm water if the stain is tougher to remove.
Shirts are best washed by hand or machine wash in “Gentle” setting with all buttons undone. Do not use starch, it will damage the fabric and cause it to lose its natural smoothness and sheen. Hang-drying or setting the dryer to “Cotton” is the preferred method to preserve the shirt’s structure. When ironing shirts, be sure to to press gently and pay attention to the temperature in relation to the fabric.
